Backup FAQs

Q: What is PowerPack?

A: PowerPack (patent pending) is an exciting new feature that allows you to transfer files from another web site to your SwapDrive. Take your PowerPack with you everywhere you surf and quickly download photos, music, articles or any other type of file directly to your SwapDrive! And since the data bypasses your computer, transfer speeds are lightning fast. Simply keep the PowerPack window open and in the background until you find a file you want to grab. Then toss it in your PowerPack and you’re done. Once you start using it, you will find it incredibly convenient.

Q: How do I use PowerPack?

A: When you are at another web site and find a file you would like to download, just do the following:

Put your mouse cursor over the name of the file (the hyperlink)

Click your right mouse button.  (Mac users, click and hold)

A 'contextual menu' will pop-up. Select 'copy shortcut' or 'copy link' depending upon which browser you are using.

Bring the PowerPack window to the foreground. (If you don't see it, select it by using the 'Window' menu at the top of the screen.)

Place your cursor in the PowerPack Address box and 'Paste' the link. (The paste command can be found under the 'Edit' menu at the top of the screen.) You can also rename your file and place it in a specific folder on your SwapDrive by clicking the 'Options' button on the PowerPack window.

*Please note that the address must be capable of being downloaded.  See the address section below for guidelines on valid addresses and examples.

Click on the 'Save to SwapDrive' button and the file is on its way!

Q: Why was my file transfer unsuccessful?

A: In most cases, the reason a file fails to transfer is due to an invalid file name or file type being entered in PowerPack.

A valid address:

- Must start with http://, https://, or ftp://

- Needs to end with a file extension (for example: .htm, .html, .jpg, .gif, .mp3, .exe)

A invalid address:

- Starts with a local file path (example:c:/, a:/)

- Starts with 'www' with the 'http:// or ftp://" prefix left off

- Is a virtual directory and does not include file name (example: www.cnn.com instead of http://www.cnn.com/index.html)

- Includes scripts that force redirection (example: addresses that contain 'cgi-bin' or '.cgi' in their names)

- Includes a jump-link within the address (example: http://www.cnn.com/index.html#topstory - to save a file that contains a '#' in the address, you must copy only the portion of address before the # symbol)
