Installing the SwapDrive Application on your RIM device
Note: The current version of SwapDrive for the RIM will only work if you have
the GoAmerica browser installed. Support for other browsers will be released in the future.
Before you can access SwapDrive using your RIM, you must first install the application
on your handheld device. This is accomplished just like you would install any compatible application on
your RIM.
On your computer, copy or download the SwapDrive application EXE,
swapdrive850.exe (DataTac/Motient network) or
swapdrive950.exe (MobiTex/Cingular network), into any directory on your computer (for example: C:\Temp).
Note: If your PIN number on the back of the device has all digits, it is on the Cingular
network. If there are letters in the PIN, it is a Motient network device.
On your computer, run (double-click) the swapdrive application exe
file, and follow the simple installation wizard.
On your computer, open the RIM Desktop Manager from the START menu.
Make sure your device is in your cradle. Note: Although it is not required, you may want to back up
your current configuration at this point.
Click the 'Application Loader' icon.
Click Next.
Check all of the application(s) that you want to install on your
device. If SwapDrive does not appear, click Add and select the swapdrive.ali file to add. Click Next
to begin installation. You may have to allow the device to allocate additional space for installing
applications. If you are installing a SwapDrive update, make sure to erase the applications (not the
data) during the install.
When completed, the SwapDrive Wireless icon will appear in your
applications page, or ribbon. To login, simply select the SwapDrive icon, click to display the menu,
select Login, enter your SwapDrive username and password, and click Login. (If you are accessing a
corporate account, you will also need to enter the 'domain name' that was provided to your site's
administrator.)
Installing the SwapDrive PQA file on your Internet-enabled Palm™
Before you can access SwapDrive using your Internet-enabled Palm™, you must first
install the PQA file on your handheld device. This is accomplished just like you would install any
compatible application on your Palm Pilot™.
On your computer, copy or download the application you wish to
install into the Add-on folder in your Palm™ Desktop directory on your computer.
Double-click the Palm™ Desktop icon on your desktop.
Select the Install icon in the left margin. Tip: You can
also access the Install Tool dialog by selecting Install Tool from the Palm Desktop™ program group or
by double-clicking any file with a PRC or PQA file extension.
In the User drop-down list, select the name that corresponds to
your organizer.
Click Add.
Select the application(s) from your Add-on folder that you want to
install on your organizer.
Click Open.
Perform a HotSync® operation to install the application(s) you selected.
When completed, Hotsync your computer to your Palm™ and the SwapDrive Wireless
icon will appear in your Palm's™ applications page. To login, simply tap the SwapDrive icon, enter
your SwapDrive username and password, and tap Login. If you are accessing a corporate account, you
will also need to enter the 'domain name' that was provided to your site's administrator.
